October Newsletter

An air of calm has descended now that September is out of the way!  Thank you to everyone who contributed to Yarndale, Skipton Puppet Festival and of course, the TV filming.

Welcome to new members of the branch committee.  In case you missed the AGM, the new officers are as follows:
Chair                                     Claire Ketteman
Vice-chair                             Jill Maloney
Secretary                              Sally McGonigle
Treasurer                              Jane Filby
Membership                         Joanna Haigh
Publicity                                Elizabeth Sewell
Programme Secretary          Clare Rhodes
Outreach                              Jane Law & Wendy Guest
Other members                    Sue Ingles
      Clare Hutchinson
      Sue Sissling

There will be a short meeting for the Outreach sub-committee from 10:30-11:30.  After lunch, we welcome Ken Jackson who will tell us about Skipton’s Industrial Heritage.

If you didn’t renew your membership before the 30th September, I’m afraid you will have pay the full amount of £48.  Please make your payments by cheque or cash (payable to Skipton Embroiderers’ Guild).  As of October, the committee have agreed to re-instate a monthly charge of £2 for members and £5 for visitors to cover the hire of the hall and refreshments.

At our July meeting we took an amazing £78 on our sales table.  Feel free to bring any unwanted stash to the meetings but if it doesn’t get sold you must take it home with you.  I have several large embroidery/tapestry frames if anyone is interested.  Let me know and I will bring them to the meeting.

The Travelling Book project will continue with two groups of 4 and 5 people with space for 3 more to join if you are interested.  As there was some confusion over the titles and groups we decided to restart the project as of the October meeting.

September Newsletter

Welcome back, I hope you have enjoyed the Summer break. Perhaps you’ve found time to finish some of the projects and samples you started or maybe you have been planning something new. Whatever you have been doing we would love to see it at this month’s meeting!
Animation Workshop Monday 11th September, 1-3pm, The Gallery, Skipton Town Hall
Skipton Puppet Festival have offered us a free workshop with artist Virpi Kittu. They would like us to create stories using ‘lost and found’ objects from our sewing boxes. No experience is necessary, just your imagination and some treasure. We will make a video story that will be shown during the Puppet Festival Weekend 29th September 1st October. Please email or phone me to book a place.
AGM New Committee
The AGM is a short, formal and necessary part of our constitution. We are still looking for people to join the committee. Elizabeth Sewell has offered to do publicity but we need a Programme Secretary and Outreach Coordinator. Details of these roles are attached. Please contact me if you are interested.
Renewing Guild Membership
By now most of you should have received a letter or e-mail from Guild HQ reminding you to renew your membership. In addition to the Guild membership of £35 (or £33 if renewed before 30th September) each member must pay £3 to the Yorkshire and the Humber Region and £10 to the Branch, a total of £46 if paid before the end of September.
Sales Table
At our July meeting we took an amazing £78 on our sales table. Feel free to bring any unwanted stash to the meetings but if it doesn’t get sold you must take it home with you. I have several large embroidery/tapestry frames if anyone is interested. Let me know and I will bring them to the meeting.
National Day of Stitch
Thank you to everyone who supported the National Day of Stitch. We had a lovely drop-in workshop at the Town Hall with 21 visitors in total and made some great butterflies. We are using the same theme for Yarndale so please bring your creations to the meeting to put in our giant butterfly net.
