Stitching for Competitions and Exhibitions was the title for this month's meeting. We would like to encourage and support members to take part in some of the regional and national competitions.
Sometimes its a question of not knowing what's out there, for others it might be not knowing where to start and then there's always a few of us that get so far and don't know how to finish! This is where your lovely friends at the Embroiderer's Guild come in - to offer encouragement, critical appraisal and advice.
There are three very different competitions this year:
- Maggie Judges Memorial Trophy - A flower beginning with the letter "C"
- Challenge Cup - Yorkshire and Humber Heritage
- Coates Anchor Award- Underground
Entries will be judged at the Regional Day on 8th June 2013 at Riccall. Don't worry if you can't go yourself, the committee will make arrangements for work to be taken to the Regional Day.
In addition to the above, the Branch has agreed to take part in the Flower Festival at Holy Trinity Church, Skipton, August 24-26th. We have decided to make cushions (or other small items) based on the theme of Noah's Ark. At the end of the exhibition, cushions may be donated to Martin House Hospice and then sold to benefit the charity. Unfortunately the charity rules mean that we cannot sell the items ourselves and then donate the money to another charity.
Margaret Laycock shared tips and advice on presenting and preparing work for display drawing on her experience of exhibiting with Textilia III art group. Inspiration and resources for the specific exhibitions was provided by Jan, Jill and Claire.
