We had a lovely day with Janet Browne today as we made a start on our next big project - a map of Skipton. Janet showed us lots of her fabulous work and taught us the applique processes she uses; getting things in the right order is key and we definitely need to get up to speed with our free machine embroidery! I don't think we're anywhere near producing something as detailed as she does but it has certainly given us food for thought regarding our proposed map and how we will approach it. There are more details for members participating under the member's tab.
Here are some examples of Janet's work and our efforts in progress - just practice pieces at this stage!

The process
The layering process with cut back applique
seems straightforward enough, until you learn that Janet makes her maps as one piece rather than several separate buildings applied to a background!

And now for our attempts (not finished!)
