October 2019 Newsletter
I’d like to start with a huge thank you to everyone who braved the rain and cyclists to help at Yarndale this year. The stand looked fabulous! Clare R’s small quilted maps of the UK and World created lots of interaction between our visitors and our Home map, which gave us an opportunity to have some great conversations with people. Although we had more space, we didn’t see as many people this year because of our location and so we will ask to go back into the main hall next year. Special thanks to Jane F who coordinated the event.
Following last month’s AGM, the committee remains largely unchanged. I will continue as chairman with Jill M (vice chair), Sally McG (secretary), Jane F (treasurer) and Sue Ingles, Pauline Jackson and Dee Pollitt as members. I’m really grateful to Joanna H for her work as membership secretary, seeing us through the GDPR legislation, correcting errors in the HQ databases and generally making us a lot more organised! Joanna has decided to stand down from the committee.
At our last committee meeting, we discussed staging another Branch Exhibition in October 2021. Whilst this seems a long way off, organising a successful show takes a great deal of time. I would like to form a small sub-group who would be responsible for all aspects of the exhibition from curating and hanging the work to organising a stewarding rota. If you are interested, please speak to a member of the committee.
The Regional Guild need volunteers to steward the Knit & Stitch Show at Harrogate (28th November 1st December). I am still waiting confirmation that our own map will be included in the HOME exhibition. Please let me know if you are able to help.
We have had a change to our programme this month because Helen Riddle is unavailable. Jackie Martin who joined us recently from Bolton EG will be talking about her machine embroidery and quilting. It will be a real treat to see all the work that Jackie has created. There are still a few spaces left on Wyn Ingham’s workshop at the end of the month to make a small stitched vessel.
